SafeHaven loans scheme
SafeHaven Sussex CIC is partnering with Wave Community Bank to help move vulnerable adults into private rented accommodation by providing interest-free loans for rent deposits, which are administered by WCB.
Flora Papanicolaou-Hood, director of Safe Haven Sussex says:
“Safe Haven Sussex CIC is a service working in the Brighton and Hove communities providing accommodation and support for vulnerable adults with low/medium support needs. We encourage training, volunteering and support individuals with life skills. One of our challenges is moving our clients on to independent living due to the financial barriers they face at the point of being ready to move on. Working with the Credit Union to overcome this barrier will enable us to offer successful clients a promising future. Thank you Credit Union. “
Ann Hickey, CEO of Wave Community Bank says:
‘Our new partnership with Safe Haven is a great opportunity for us to help get people into housing that would otherwise find it impossible to raise the money to secure a property. We already run similar successful schemes with local charities including Umbrella Brighton & Hove, T4K and Voices in Exile and we know these partnerships make a huge difference to local people’s lives.’
The zero-interest loans all have a savings element to help borrowers build a savings pot as they repay the loan to help them build financial resilience in the future. As each loan is repaid, the money will be made available to lend to another vulnerable adult Safe Haven are supporting.
