2025 marks a huge milestone: our 25th anniversary of service in the community! To celebrate this quarter-century, we wanted to do more than just mark the date; we wanted to shine a spotlight on the incredible local champions, the Voluntary, Charities, Social Enterprise, and Non-Profit (VCSE) organisations, whose invaluable contributions often go unnoticed.
We firmly believe in the power of community and are thrilled to announce the recipients of our anniversary giving initiative: Community Kitchen in Brighton.
A Visit That Proved the Impact
We are delighted that Community Kitchen has received a £500 donation from us
To celebrate, Wave Community Bank’s Emma and Jenni were able to pop down in person to present the team with the cheque. While there, they saw a cooking class in action!
It was inspiring to witness the energy and warmth firsthand. Crucially, some of the participants were able to share how much the classes had made a difference to them and their families. This included giving them the confidence to try new recipes at home—a tangible benefit that goes beyond the kitchen door. It’s moments like these that reinforce our dedication to local initiatives. Seeing the transformation in participants’ confidence and enthusiasm truly underlines the value of the Kitchen’s work.
More Than Just Cookery
Community Kitchen is far more than just a place for cookery classes (though they do run amazing sessions led by some of Brighton and Hove’s top chefs!). Right in the center of Brighton, just five minutes from the station, their team creates a safe, fun-filled, and transformative space for all.
Based centrally on Queens Road, this spacious venue is fully equipped with professional cooking stations and comfortable dining areas, providing a perfect environment for learning and connection.
Their community offerings are a true lifeline, focusing on improving diet, wellbeing, and combating loneliness by bringing people together. They run vital cooking and gardening courses, alongside food and nature activities, specifically supporting individuals facing disadvantage.
A particular standout is their Dementia Cookery Group. This initiative provides a gentle, supportive environment where participants can regain confidence, enjoy delicious meals, and find good company. The incredible, welcoming team makes Community Kitchen a true hub of support. This commitment to diverse and inclusive programming, addressing specific local needs, is exactly what Wave Community Bank aims to champion.
A Financial Boost and a Profile Lift
For a grassroots organisation, this funding directly supports their ability to offer these essential community cookery courses. Crucially, as part of our role in the community, we also see the opportunity to champion and raise their profile. The impact of this donation, coupled with the raising of their fundraising profile, will be felt even more profoundly.
Every cookery class you book, whether you’re discovering the vibrant spices of South Indian cuisine, learning about Bao Buns, or hiring their fully-equipped kitchen for a team-building event, is a direct investment. These revenue-generating activities are essential, as all profits support their core community work, ensuring the Kitchen’s essential services remain accessible to those who need them most.
