What an incredible National Numeracy Day 2025 it was! Here at Wave Community Bank, we’re immensely proud to have been a delivery partner for what was undoubtedly the biggest and most impactful campaign yet. We talk numeracy and money all the time, but to be part of such a significant national campaign was truly amazing. It’s inspiring to see how much can be achieved when we work together to boost number confidence across the UK.

A Focus on What Matters Most: Money
This year, in its eighth year, the National Numeracy Day campaign zeroed in on a theme that’s more relevant than ever: money. New research highlighted that a significant 32% of adults looking to improve their numeracy are motivated by managing their finances better. That’s exactly what we set out to do – to demonstrate how everyday maths is crucial for things like budgeting, saving, spending wisely, and planning for a secure future. We wanted to show how these skills can genuinely empower people in their daily lives.

Phenomenal Engagement and Impact
The engagement this year was simply phenomenal. Across the campaign, National Numeracy Charity saw :

  • 1.2 million actions taken to improve numeracy – a remarkable 55% increase on all actions taken prior to this year!
  • Over 13,369 organisations and individuals signed up to participate.
  • Video views increased fivefold compared to 2024, showing how powerful visual content can be.
  • 318 media mentions, reaching 8 million through print and broadcast, and an astounding 321 million through online readership.

But it’s not just about the numbers; it’s about the real difference made in people’s lives. Of those who completed the survey after taking part:

  • 71% became more aware of how numbers are used in daily life.
  • 49% felt more positive about numbers – a fantastic step towards overcoming number anxiety.
  • 45% are now talking about numeracy/maths with family, friends, or colleagues, helping to normalise these important conversations.
  • 93% said the campaign was effective in inspiring adults and children to improve their number confidence and skills.

The Silent Savers and Future Impact
Intriguingly, new research also revealed that 1 in 4 UK adults are “silent savers,” preferring to keep their financial matters private, even with 88% reporting confidence with numbers. This highlights a fascinating aspect of financial behaviour and the ongoing need for supportive and accessible financial education.

Crucially, the impact of National Numeracy Day will extend far beyond just one day. The momentum generated is set to continue, with:

  • 89% of participants saying they’re likely to take part again next year.
  • 71% planning to keep using the resources throughout the year.
  • 75% interested in joining Number Confidence Week this November.

At Wave Community Bank, we believe that everyone deserves to feel confident with numbers, especially when it comes to managing their money.

We’re proud to support initiatives like National Numeracy Day that are making a tangible difference across the UK.

Let’s keep this momentum going and continue to build a more numerate nation!
