Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience and creativity of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
It runs from 19-25th June 2023 and everyone is invited to take part in whatever way they can.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary for Refugee Week and the theme is Compassion and they are inviting everyone to celebrate what compassion looks like in action.
Our outreach programmes have been created out of compassion to help those most in need as our aim is that everyone should be able to access financial services and we are highlighting the work that Wave Community Bank is continuing to do in local communities to help those most affected.
Some of our programmes include:
- Working in partnership with Brighton & Hove County Council we have been able to help 22 Ukrainian refugees last year into housing with the Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
- Working with Voices in Exile to provide 0% interest loans for refugees and asylum seekers across Brighton.
- Working with T4K to provide 0% interest loans for people who have no recourse to public funds to apply for leave to remain.
- Opening over 40 community bank accounts for refugees who have left war torn countries or escaped oppression including refugees from Syria, Ukraine, Iran, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Sudan and Libya and many others who have moved to the UK.
If you or anyone you know needs helping accessing financial services in the UK, either because they are seeking refuge in this country or have simply been made homeless then please get in touch with us as we continue to support those most in need.
