From 22nd June to 5th July, co-operatives across the UK are celebrating Co-op Fortnight 2026, a chance to showcase how working together creates stronger communities and a better future for everyone.
This year’s theme, “Co-operate and We Can Change the World”, reflects something we see every day at Wave Community Bank. As a member-owned financial co-operative, we exist to help people improve their financial wellbeing, build resilience and achieve greater financial security.
While affordable loans and savings accounts remain at the heart of what we do, our work goes far beyond financial products. Across our communities, we are helping people gain the confidence, skills and knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions and take control of their money.
Our outreach team works directly with individuals, families and partner organisations, offering practical support and guidance to those facing financial challenges. Through workshops, community events and one-to-one conversations, we help people understand budgeting, saving and borrowing, often reaching those who may not have access to traditional financial guidance.
We have also invested in a range of free online resources designed to help people improve their financial wellbeing. Visitors to our website can access budgeting tools, savings calculators, financial wellbeing information and practical guides that support better money management. These resources are available to everyone, whether they are a member of Wave Community Bank or simply looking for help to improve their financial situation.
Building financial resilience is more important than ever. Unexpected expenses, rising living costs and economic uncertainty can place significant pressure on households. By encouraging regular saving, promoting responsible borrowing and providing access to trusted financial education, we aim to help people prepare for life’s ups and downs with greater confidence.
As a credit union, every decision we make is guided by our co-operative values. Rather than focusing on profit for shareholders, we focus on creating positive outcomes for our members and the communities we serve. Every pound saved and every loan provided helps strengthen our ability to support others.
Co-op Fortnight is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of co-operatives across the UK and the difference they make every day. It is also a reminder that when people come together with a shared purpose, they can create lasting change.
Emma Brown, Deputy CEO of Wave Community Bank, said:
“At Wave Community Bank, co-operation is at the heart of everything we do. Whether we are helping someone start a savings habit, supporting a family through a difficult period with a loan, or providing tools and resources that improve financial confidence, our goal is always to help people build a stronger financial future. Co-op Fortnight is a great opportunity to celebrate the positive impact that co-operatives and credit unions make in communities across the country.”
