Wave Community Bank launches its Christmas Loans Sale, helping people borrow responsibly while building savings for the future.

Christmas is a special time of year, but it can also be one of the most expensive. With household budgets already stretched by the rising cost of living, the pressure to buy presents, put food on the table and make Christmas memorable can leave many people worrying about how they will pay for it all.

Christmas should be something to look forward to, not something that leaves people struggling with debt long after the decorations have come down. That’s why our Christmas Loans Sale is helping people who need to borrow save money on the cost of their loan, while encouraging responsible borrowing and building savings for the future

A different approach to Christmas borrowing

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of Christmas. Shops are full of festive offers, online retailers are encouraging us to spend, and the temptation to buy just one more present can be difficult to resist.

But those purchases can quickly add up, particularly when everyday essentials such as food, energy and housing are already taking up so much of our income.

Borrowing money shouldn’t be about encouraging people to spend more than they can afford. It should be about providing access to fair, affordable credit when it’s genuinely needed.

As a not-for-profit financial co-operative, Wave Community Bank takes a different approach to lending. Our focus is on supporting our members and helping them build greater financial security, rather than generating profits for shareholders.

Our Christmas Loans Sale is now open

From 1 November to 15 December 2026, employees whose workplaces are signed up to Chorus, our workplace savings scheme, can benefit from a reduced interest rate on eligible loans.

Christmas Loans Sale – 26.8% APR on loans under £1,500, reduced from our usual rate of 42.6% APR.

Through Chorus, repayments are made directly from wages, making them automatic and easier to manage alongside other household commitments.

You don’t need to be an existing Wave Community Bank member to apply, provided you work for an employer participating in Chorus.

However, our Christmas Loans Sale isn’t about encouraging people to borrow simply because there’s a special offer. It’s about making ethical borrowing more accessible to those who need it, with clear repayments and affordability checks.

Turning borrowers into savers

One of the things that makes Wave Community Bank different is that every loan includes a savings element.

When someone repays a loan through Chorus, part of their regular payment goes towards repaying the money they’ve borrowed and the interest, while another part goes into their own savings account.

These savings are held as security while the loan is being repaid, but once the loan has been fully repaid, the member has built up a savings pot of their own.

For some people, this can be the first time they’ve managed to save regularly.

It’s an important part of what we do. We don’t just want to help people borrow money when they need it. We want to help them develop a savings habit and build greater financial resilience for the future.

Imagine reaching the end of a loan and having savings to show for it, rather than simply returning to where you started.

That’s the difference we’re working to make.

Christmas is about more than how much we spend

We all want to make Christmas special for the people we care about, but it’s not how much we spend that makes it memorable.

With the rising cost of living putting pressure on household budgets, the temptation to rely on credit cards, buy now, pay later schemes or expensive borrowing can leave people paying for Christmas well into the New Year.

Shopping sensibly, supporting local businesses and spending within our means can make Christmas just as special, without the worry of unnecessary debt.

Putting people before profit

Wave Community Bank has been supporting people and communities across East Sussex, Brighton & Hove, Kent, Medway and Bexley, providing an alternative to commercial lenders and helping more people access ethical savings and loans.

Through Chorus, we’re also working with employers who want to make a positive difference to the financial wellbeing of their employees.

Our Christmas Loans Sale is one example of that commitment.

It’s about giving people a fairer choice, making borrowing more manageable and creating opportunities to save at the same time.

Christmas comes around every year. We want to help more people enjoy it without carrying unnecessary financial worries into the next one.
