Volunteers Week takes place 1-7 June every year and is a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and to say thank you for everything they do.

To help recognise the talents of our volunteers at Wave Community Bank, who give up their time to help us provide financial services in the local community, we asked one of our volunteers to share his story.

David who helps with member services by answering the phone, email enquiries, and helping with DGS said “I volunteer with Wave Community Bank because I agree with its ethos of helping the community and believe that the work I do is of benefit to Wave. I also chose Wave as an organisation to help because I was able to make use of the skills I had learnt in my working life. Having been with Wave for a number of years I have found that I enjoy being part of what is a very friendly team and always look forward to coming to the office. I volunteer because I feel it is important that now I am retired and have the time that I do something worthwhile for the community. I also think that being part of a team again is good for my self-esteem.”

Nigel Lecky is one of our volunteer Board and he said: First of all, I was drawn to volunteer with Wave Community Bank because of its strong commitment to ethics and its focus on improving local people’s lives through the provision of fair and supportive financial services. Working with an amazing team of people who approach these challenges with professionalism, empathy and humour really brings the volunteering experience to life and makes it personally fulfilling. It’s has also been an undeniable opportunity to apply existing skills, acquire new ones, and become more connected with what’s happening locally.’

Volunteers like David and Derek (photographed) and our volunteer Board members like Nigel, are at the heart of local communities and we say a BIG thank you to them and for volunteers everywhere that contribute in whatever way they can.

We are looking forward to you joining us for Volunteers’ Week 2023 to recognise the huge role volunteers play in our communities.
