We are proud to support White Ribbon Day, a significant day dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and the importance of breaking the cycle of abuse. This year, we are highlighting the vital community work we are doing in NHS Trusts, to help those experiencing domestic abuse.
One story that we hear frequently is the fear many women face when their partners demand money from them, coupled with the threat of losing their homes. Thanks to the support of our Financial Wellbeing Support Officer, based at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust, Tracy is able to offer one-on-one assistance to these women. This includes practical help with budgeting and referrals to other support charities, like Refuge, if needed.
Tracy also discusses with women the importance of having their own bank account. One member shared how opening her own account gave her the financial independence and security she needed to move forward. For those without a bank account, it’s easy to set one up with Wave Community Bank online, without a credit check, ensuring everyone has access to financial independence—even if they’ve faced financial difficulties in the past.
We’re proud to say that Wave Community Bank is actively supporting financial wellbeing in NHS Trusts, reaching out to women across Sussex. Each month, we assist at least 2-3 individuals at various NHS Trust sites by offering guidance on opening bank accounts, reviewing their financial situations, and signposting them to essential support services. Our goal is to ensure that those in vulnerable situations can take charge of their finances and access the help they need to rebuild their lives.
