Over two days, we had the fantastic opportunity to engage with students and staff at the University of Brighton. Setting up stands at both the Checkland Building (Falmer Campus) and Cockcroft Building (Moulsecoomb Campus), we showcased the benefits of credit union membership and how it can support financial wellbeing for both students and university employees.
Supporting Students with Financial Wellbeing
For students, joining Wave Community Bank means gaining access to an ethical and affordable financial support system. We highlighted how becoming a credit union member can help students develop good savings habits for the future while also providing access to affordable loans when needed. With student finances often being stretched, we believe our services can provide a strong foundation for responsible money management.
Workplace Savings for University Staff
As an employer partner, the University of Brighton offers its staff access to our Workplace Savings Scheme, Chorus. This scheme allows employees to save directly from their wages, helping them to build financial resilience effortlessly. We spoke with many university staff members about how this benefit can empower them to achieve their financial goals and navigate their financial journey with confidence.
Collaboration with Brighton Student Union and Local Charities
During our visit, we were pleased to be joined by the Brighton Student Union, which was running an election promotion for positions within the union itself. We also had the chance to connect with Fresh Start, a local charity that provides hands-on support for families by offering activities for children and parents as well as counselling services.
Empowering Communities Through Volunteering

During both days of our discussions with students, we explored volunteering opportunities available with Wave Community Bank through the University of Brighton’s Active Student Volunteering Service. This invaluable service connects University of Brighton students and staff with meaningful volunteering experiences, working closely with community groups, students, and academics to facilitate placements that provide valuable experience while making a positive impact.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we understand the vital role volunteers play in strengthening our work. At Wave Community Bank, volunteers contribute in various ways, including serving on our Board, assisting with Internal Audit, and supporting administrative tasks at our main office in Hove Town Hall.
