What is International Credit Union Day?
Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been observed on the third Thursday of October to recognise the achievements and impact of the global credit union movement. Credit unions are member-owned financial cooperatives that operate for the benefit of their members, not for profit.
Globally, over 375 million people in 118 countries rely on credit unions, which operate more than 74,000 cooperatives worldwide. ICU Day is an opportunity to celebrate this spirit of cooperation, reflect on the positive impact credit unions have on individuals’ lives, and engage members in building stronger, more prosperous communities.
