Time to Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation — and this year, it’s a powerful reminder that talking openly can change lives.

On Thursday 5 February, Mind in Brighton & Hove, in partnership with Brighton & Hove Buses, will be travelling across the city to raise awareness of Time to Talk Day and encourage people to start conversations about mental health. Their Mental Health Advice team will be out and about, offering free wellbeing resources, including teabags, and sharing simple tips on how to begin a conversation — whether that’s with a friend, family member, colleague or neighbour.

Why talking really matters

Having an open conversation can be the first step towards better mental health. It helps reduce stigma and makes it easier for people to seek support when they need it most. There’s no right or wrong way to start — it could be a phone call, a text, a walk together, a cuppa, or even a post on social media. What matters is taking that first step.

The hidden link between money worries and mental health

At Wave Community Bank, we know that money worries are one of the biggest — and most common — pressures on people’s mental health. Concerns about paying bills, managing debt, coping with rising living costs or unexpected expenses can cause ongoing stress, anxiety and sleepless nights.

For many people, money problems don’t exist in isolation. They can affect confidence, relationships, work, and overall wellbeing — and when people feel overwhelmed or ashamed, they may avoid talking about it altogether. That’s why Time to Talk Day is so important. It creates space for honest conversations — including conversations about money — without judgement.

Talking about financial worries can feel difficult, but it can also be a huge relief. Opening up to someone you trust, or getting support early, can prevent problems from escalating and help people feel more in control again.

Support on the move across Brighton & Hove

On Time to Talk Day, the Mind team will be travelling by bus across Brighton & Hove, stopping at key locations to chat with residents and share support and information.

You can find them at:

  • 10.00 – 11.00 – Whitehawk (opposite bus depot)
  • 11.30 – 1.00 – Churchill Square (front of Churchill Square)
  • 1.30 – 3.00 – Hove Town Hall (front entrance)

If you see the bus, do stop by — even a short conversation can make a difference.
