Introducing East Sussex Carers Safe and Warm
Local carers charity Care for the Carers have received two years of funding through a partnership with Southern Gas Network (SGN) to help carers stay safe at home, save money on their energy bills and much more. If you are an unpaid carer and are looking for top tips around energy efficiency that’ll save you £££s, information on cheaper energy tariffs, how to sign up to the Priority Services Register (PSR)? Perhaps you’d like a FREE warm pack, heated throws, carbon monoxide detectors or a slow cooker? How about a free beach hut for a day? Look no further.
Janet Duggan, Community Partnership Manager at SGN recently shared, “Through this partnership, we will help carers and the people they support to stay safe, warm and well at home, providing practical help with energy costs, income maximisation, fuel debt, carbon monoxide safety and access to the Priority Services Register, while also building longer-term financial resilience and confidence in managing household energy.”

Hastings Older Carers Money Matters
Thanks to funding from Independent Age Care for the Carers will be working with unpaid carers over 65 across Hastings, many in privately rented accommodation, who are struggling with spiraling food and energy costs.
As Jennifer Twist, Chief Executive of Care for the Carers, commented:
“The cost of living crisis continues to severely impact unpaid carers every day with older carers often being the hardest hit. I’m delighted that this newly funded project in Hastings in partnership with Age UK East Sussex will enable us to directly support more carers over 65 to maximise their incomes, claiming the benefits that they are entitled to, and to stay warm and safe at home over the next three years”.
