For World Mental Health Day, we’re asking everyone to check over their finances today and to talk to someone if you’re worried in any way.

But why?

Many reports have been written, including this one from the NHS on the link between financial wellbeing and mental health – because how we feel about ourselves affects the way we spend money, and the way we feel about money affects the way we feel about ourselves.

So whilst we may speak to a friend or professional about how we feel, it’s good to talk to someone about our finances and to seek help on how we can improve our financial wellbeing.

At Wave Community Bank, we work with our members on improving their financial wellbeing and have been running Financial Wellbeing Webinars for local people in the community for over 6 months now in an effort to help people get back on their feet after the pandemic. They are run on a regular basis and you can register your FREE place here.

But why is this so important?

Other research published by the Financial Advice Working Group for HM Treasury and the Financial Conduct Authority showing that Financial stress costs the UK economy £121 billion and 18 million working hours in time off work each year and that 1 in 4 workers lose sleep over money worries, it’s time for us all to take a closer look at our finances and to seek help if needed.

We have a wide range of financial resources available including the Money Helper section provided by the Money & Pensions Service should you or anybody you know be worried about money this World Mental Health Day.
