Debt Awareness Week (DAW) 2025 is a nationwide campaign led by StepChange Debt Charity, running from Monday 24th to Sunday 30th March. Now in its 11th year, the campaign aims to raise awareness of problem debt, provide solutions, and—most importantly—break the stigma that stops many people from seeking help.

Why Debt Awareness Week Matters

Debt can happen to anyone. However, 80% of people struggling with debt feel judged, and many delay seeking support. This year, Debt Awareness Week focuses on challenging the shame around debt, helping more people take that first step towards financial wellbeing.

At Wave Community Bank, we understand that financial worries can feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. 92% of people who seek debt advice say they wish they had done so sooner, which is why we want to highlight the free, confidential support available.

How You Can Get Involved

We’re supporting Debt Awareness Week 2025 by encouraging our members to:

1. Talk About Debt & Open Up

Many people avoid conversations about money struggles, but talking about debt can help break the stigma. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or a professional advisor, starting the conversation is the first step.

2. Take the First Steps Towards Help

If you’re worried about debt, support is available:

  • StepChange Debt Charity offers free, confidential advice and tools like their 60-second debt test and money health check.
  • Help with Money on Wave Community Bank’s Website provides resources and tips on managing your finances and take control of your debt.
  • Our affordable credit options can help members avoid high-cost borrowing and take control of their money.

3. Know You Are Not Alone

Debt is more common than people think. 1 in 4 UK adults don’t know where to turn for financial help—but together, we can change that. Whether through debt consolidation, budgeting support, or ethical savings options, we’re here to help our members achieve financial stability.
