We know that student life is busy and unpredictable at times, but try to write a weekly shopping list if you can. If you don’t have a lot of time, buy enough to cook for more people than yourself, and freeze the extra portions for convenient and healthy dinners (which will stop you getting a takeaway too!).
Stick to your list and avoid going food shopping when you’re hungry! If you can, try to go to the cheapest supermarket near you. Lots of students prefer Lidl or Aldi, so find out if you have one locally.
Check the labels on the shelves. Look at how much you’re paying for the weight/quantity of the product. For example, it should say ‘£__ per 100g’. It will be these small differences that make a difference!
Supermarkets like Tesco are now offering a discount on products if you have a Clubcard. This can save you a lot of money, so sign up for the loyalty card at the supermarket you usually shop at and see what benefits you can receive. You can usually collect points which result in discount vouchers for you to use later.
Don’t forget, if you sign up for our Engage account, you can get up to 15% cashback at national and local retailers whenever you use your debit card to make a purchase!
