April was a truly busy and engaging month for us here at Wave Community Bank, as we travelled across Kent connecting with a wide range of individuals, community groups, and businesses. We were involved in numerous events and initiatives, all focused on strengthening our ties within the local community.
We began the month in Swanscombe, meeting with ex-veterans and their families at Helping Hands. It was a valuable opportunity to discuss their financial needs and explain how our credit union can provide support.
We also actively participated in networking events throughout Maidstone, Canterbury, Sevenoaks, Faversham, and Sittingbourne. These gatherings allowed us to connect with many community groups and local businesses, fostering new relationships and strengthening existing ones.
Our commitment to the voluntary sector was demonstrated by our attendance at the Bexley Voluntary Service Council meeting and Bexleys Members of Parliament and representative. This important session facilitated connections with various organisations and discussions about how we can collectively address local challenges.
We addressed the crucial issue of fuel poverty by attending the Southeast Fuel Poverty Forum, organised by National Energy Action. Our presence allowed us to share information about the support Wave Community Bank offers in this vital area.
The University of Kent Philanthropy Conference provided another valuable opportunity for connection, where we engaged with representatives from both large national charities and local organisations, exploring potential collaborations.
During the school half-term, we were pleased to be invited to a variety of local events, including Family Hub sessions in Faversham and Sheppey. These provided a chance to connect with families and share information about the support available through Wave.
The Gravesham Borough Council Tenants Community Day was a significant event, bringing together numerous community groups and organisations, allowing for important networking and information sharing. We also supported the Spring Lane Neighbourhood Centre Easter Event, a joyful community celebration featuring special appearances that brought smiles to many.
Our community engagement extended across the Folkestone and Hythe District Council area, with our attendance at events in both Folkestone and St Mary’s Bay, reinforcing our local connections in that part of the county.
Investing in the future, we had the pleasure of assisting the 1st Willesborough Cubs with their Money Skills badge. We introduced 26 young participants to key financial concepts, such as the difference between credit and debit cards and the basics of budgeting.
We were proud to attend the Mayor of Swale’s Rugby fundraiser, supporting women’s and girls’ rugby and cheering on the #ThreeGiants. Sheppey RFC, Sittingbourne Rugby Union Football Club, and Faversham Ladies Rugby as they took on a combined opposition of Maidstone Rugby Football Club, Aylesford Bulls Rugby Football Club, and Lordswood Rugby Football Club .
The level of engagement throughout April has been significant, and as a result, we are already receiving more invitations for the coming months. It’s clear that our community involvement continues to grow, and we look forward to building on these connections and supporting the people of Kent.
