We were delighted to be invited by Naushabah Khan MP to take part in a local housing summit recently. It was a fantastic opportunity for Wave Community Bank to get out into the heart of the community and meet with residents from across Gillingham and Rainham. Jen, our Community Engagement Officer in Kent, loves talking to people so the opportunity to be attend the housing summit with the added bonus of tea and cake was too good to be missed.
There was a really positive atmosphere and it felt less like a formal meeting and much more like a community hub. It was really important to us that local people had the opportunity to speak directly with the organisations working every day to support them which Wave Community Bank was one of them. It was also a great chance to catch up with some familiar faces including our Employer Partners from West Kent Housing there, as well as Vince Maple and many of the dedicated teams from Medway Council. Seeing so many groups coming together with the shared aim of helping residents access the support they need was incredibly encouraging.
There were conversations about recycling, saving money on energy, community groups offering help and support and a lot of conversations about the benefits of our amazing trolley coins and how they work in so many supermarkets, and that was before residents even came in! Residents were curious about what we do , and how we do it and Jen was able to talk to some members face to face to answer quick questions and get lovely feedback on our amazing customer service team.
At Wave, we believe that stable housing is the bedrock of financial resilience, and being there to provide guidance and friendly support on how our services can help manage the costs of a home is what we do best. The feedback from those who attended has been so positive, and we are incredibly grateful to have been involved.
