At Wave Community Bank, we believe everyone deserves safety, dignity, and a place to call home. This Refugee Week (17–23 June 2025), we’re proud to stand in solidarity with people seeking refuge—especially those who’ve had to flee conflict, persecution, or disaster to find safety in the UK.
This year’s theme, “Our Home”, invites us all to reflect on what home means—beyond bricks and mortar. It’s about community, belonging, and the opportunity to build a future. At Wave, we’re helping to create that sense of home by supporting refugees as they settle, rebuild, and thrive.
Supporting Ukrainian Families
Since the war in Ukraine began, we’ve welcomed many Ukrainian families into our communities. Through partnerships and practical support, we’ve been able to offer ethical financial services to help them set up UK bank accounts, manage their money safely, and begin their new lives with confidence.
Our dedicated team has worked to remove barriers—offering clear guidance, translation support, and an open-door approach that puts people first.
Working with Voices in Exile
We’re also proud to partner with Voices in Exile, a local organisation supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable migrants. Their team provides casework, legal advice, and advocacy for those who may not otherwise have access to support.
Together, we help ensure that people who’ve come to the UK for safety are not excluded from vital financial services—and can build strong, independent lives in our communities.
Financial Inclusion for All
Wave Community Bank is committed to financial inclusion. That means ensuring refugees and asylum seekers can:
-
Open safe, fair accounts without facing discrimination or unnecessary bureaucracy
-
Access affordable credit in times of need, instead of falling into the hands of loan sharks
-
Build financial resilience, with help from budgeting tools and savings schemes
-
Feel welcome and supported, no matter their background
