We are so excited to announce our change of name from East Sussex Credit Union to Wave Community Bank.
We decided that we wanted a name that people understood more easily, which would therefore attract younger members. It also seems to represent us in a more suitable way. Our focus on ethics and sustainability remain central to our values, which we’d like to emphasise with our new look.
Our CEO, Ann Hickey explains, “We have changed our name so people can understand what we are more easily – an inclusive local community bank for the people of East Sussex. We chose Wave as it has a link to the sea and 91% of our existing members live in coastal towns in East Sussex or the city of Brighton & Hove. “
We have been a credit union for 21 years, and felt that it was time to update our look and represent ourselves in a way that more people within the community would understand. The idea of a credit union can seem outdated, and by naming ourselves as a community bank, it centralises our true values of community. We look forward to the bright future ahead of us, and the new members that join us along the way.
