The run up to Christmas can be a fun time to spend money on special treats, presents, food and all the trimmings. However, overspending towards the end of 2021 can in some cases lead to unexpected and spiralling debt in the New Year.

Now is a good time to think about your relationship with money and what does it mean for you? Our Wave Money Guide has some short quizzes to help you think about your attitude to money and some ideas for how you can make changes to improve your financial situation. Download it here.

If you have a regular savings account, a limited amount of debt then you could benefit from saving money when you shop with an Engage card which is great for this time of year when you’re buying extra gifts as you can also earn money whilst you shop. There’s also the Smartcash card which is free for children so you can pay any pocket money or gifts onto their card and teach them how to save through the mobile app – and as their parent/guardian you will be notified when they spend money on their card so you can keep track of their spending.

If on the other hand you’re more of a sloth when it comes to managing your money and you have huge amounts of debt and not sure how to manage them then we have some resources to help you get out of debt. Have a read of our debt advice here and start using the budget planners to help you get back in control of your money. Remember if your debt is becoming a problem, the sooner your speak to a debt advisor the better so you can manage your debts and work out a solution together.

Whatever your relationship is with money, Wave Community Bank is here for you and if you live or work in East Sussex, Brighton or Hove then you are welcome to come and join us so you too can be part of your local community bank.
